Running Man Dan

So yes I know I have another blog but this one is going to detail my Year Long Quest that I embarked on this very morning.

As I posted on my facebook late last night, I am starting on a one year journey to both get in shape and to lose weight. This one year plan is to run a half-marathon in just 12 months. After setting many goals and many different incentives for myself, this one is going to be the end-all-be-all. I am going to do this.

So this very morning I embarked on the journey. My Running plan from Runner's World started me off nice and easy with a 2 mile run with a mile time of 15:50. Sounded plenty do-able. Too bad that was not what my knees thought. After just half a mile, my knee started to lock up and decided that it was going to hurt. Bad.

So I resorted to running a little more on the elliptical and call that a little better just to keep the ball rolling. It didn't like that too much either but I pushed through and here we are, the end of Day 1's running challenge.

So at this point I am looking for pointers and prayer. I am not a runner and will never pretend to be, but this is the journey I have been called to run (no pun intended) and I need to continue.

Run like the Wind Bulls-eye!!

  1. When I started training for my first half marathon, I could only make it a half mile before stopping as well. It's going to take steady progress - don't feel bad if you can't 100% follow the Runner's World running plan. Each day you'll get stronger and more confident

  2. Try the Couch to 5K plan (google it). It is designed to get you off the couch and running. You alternate between running and walking, gradually doing more running and less walking. The program tells you when to walk and when to run and gives you encouragement over a background of music. You download it onto your mp3 player. Lots of music choices. Worked for me.
