So here in Buchanan, summer weather has arrived. This means....Heat! Now I can't complain to much cause it was only about 77 degrees, but there was very little wind so I was still pretty warm!
Now I have to preface this post with saying, I do not consider myself to be an outside runner at all (more important not a real runner yet). So today's run outside was a new experience, and not necessarily a great one.
So now that I am home in Buchanan MI for the next few weeks before I head out to Colorado, I am without the services of the student workout center in the basement of Alumni Hall. To be honest, I miss that. I like treadmills a little bit better because I can regulate my speed better than I personally allow myself to. So I needed to find someplace to run. The best thing I could see as of now was to walk over to Buchanan High School and run on their track. Two things about this. One: It is at the bottom of an arena type set up- thus a lot of stairs down to get to it. This isn't so bad on the way down, but after the run- those stairs are not helpful AT ALL. Secondly- Its a track and its not a treadmill. Yes it gives me a different view as I run around the track, but it is a totally new ballgame for me.
So I am going to do something new in this post. I need advice....and bad! I am going to post a few questions/problems that I have and if you have any suggestions/advice/inspiration feel free to comment here or email/call/text/facebook me with it as well. Its time to get serious and NOW!
Problems:
1. I need new shoes- suggestions as to good shoes to wear/where to get them for less than a lot of money?
2. I had some pretty bad shin splints today- suggestions on how to deal with those?
3. I had my feet going numb as I was running- is that a problem?
4. Any other suggestions/advice?
Thanks all for the support/advice so far! You are all awesome!!

Running Man Dan
So yes I know I have another blog but this one is going to detail my Year Long Quest that I embarked on this very morning.
As I posted on my facebook late last night, I am starting on a one year journey to both get in shape and to lose weight. This one year plan is to run a half-marathon in just 12 months. After setting many goals and many different incentives for myself, this one is going to be the end-all-be-all. I am going to do this.
So this very morning I embarked on the journey. My Running plan from Runner's World started me off nice and easy with a 2 mile run with a mile time of 15:50. Sounded plenty do-able. Too bad that was not what my knees thought. After just half a mile, my knee started to lock up and decided that it was going to hurt. Bad.
So I resorted to running a little more on the elliptical and call that a little better just to keep the ball rolling. It didn't like that too much either but I pushed through and here we are, the end of Day 1's running challenge.
So at this point I am looking for pointers and prayer. I am not a runner and will never pretend to be, but this is the journey I have been called to run (no pun intended) and I need to continue.
Run like the Wind Bulls-eye!!
